On July 8, the Wheaton City Council decided to gather information for a policy that would allow the city to place a lien on properties when owners fail to reimburse the city for maintenance work performed by city employees.
After reviewing a progress report that included information on the work that has been completed at abandoned and neglected properties located within the Wheaton city limits, the aldermen directed City Clerk Marianne Witt to contact city attorney David Cole to discuss the issue.
Witt was asked to gather information on the proper procedures for maintaining properties and filing liens on properties to recoup maintenance expenses.
The council also voted to send a letter to the Wheaton MFA to request the business mow its property.
In other business, the Wheaton City Council:
* Reviewed a six-month financial report.
* Adopted a new water and sewer service shut-off policy.
* Voted to install a swing set in the Wheaton City Park.
