Billy Joe Spain, 75, of Monett, passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at Cox Monett Hospital. He was born Aug. 3, 1933, in Cassville, the son of Alven and Mary Newman Spain.
He was retired from Jumping Jacks Shoe Company in Monett. He was a member of the New Dawn Pentecostal Church. He was a Marine veteran and a member of the American Legion Post.
He married Martha C. Killman Spain on Jan. 15, 1954, in Crane, and she survives.
Additional survivors include: four daughters, Shirley Lassiter and her husband, Charles, of Edwards, Rosemary Frazer and her husband, Jim, of Clinton, Pennie Bowers and her husband, Bill, of Aurora, and Laura Booth and her husband, Tim, of Casey, Iowa; two sons, Danny Spain, of Monett, and Billy Spain, and his wife, Tonya, of Marionville; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leeroy Spain, of Aurora; and one sister, Joann McCallister, of Monett.
Funeral services were held Monday at Buchanan Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mickey Lewis, Pastor Tony Wyatt and Rev. Garold Gage officiating. Interment was at antioch Cemetery, Butterfield.
