The small community of Golden will host one of its biggest events of the year this Saturday, Aug. 23 when the 58th annual Fiddlers Contest returns to the Golden Community Center.
Sponsored by the Golden Circle Shores Association, the contest features talented musicians who will be vying for cash prizes and trophies in three divisions - senior, open and junior. There is no fee to enter the contest with each division paying three places.
In advance of the contest, community members will be serving delicious barbecue and brisket dinners as well as homemade pie. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. for the low price of $5 for adults and $3 for children. The pie sells for $1 a slice.
Area bakers are also welcome to enter their homemade desserts in a pie contest, which will be judged that evening.
Those who come out early to eat will be entertained by the music of Brightwater Junction, a local bluegrass band that will begin playing at 6 p.m.
The cost of admission to the Fiddlers Contest is $3 for adults and $1 for children. Those under the age of 5 are admitted free.
All area residents are encouraged to attend, and handicapped parking will be provided. There is seating available in the outdoor theatre but attendees can also bring their own lawn chairs.
