Purdy schedules back-to-school events

Thursday, August 7, 2008

The Purdy R-II School District has announced orientation events, schedule pick up dates and enrollment opportunities for students who will attend the district during the 2008-09 school year.

Students entering kindergarten through fourth grade who are new to the district can enroll for classes at the new elementary office, which is located on the west side of the school, on Tuesday, Aug. 12 or Wednesday, Aug. 13. Open enrollment will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

A custodial parent must accompany all enrolling students. Parents will need to bring their children's immunization record, birth certificate and proof of residency, such as a utility bill, rental agreement or property deed, to the enrollment session. Students entering kindergarten must have turned 5 years old on or before Aug. 1.

Parents who are unable to enroll their children on Aug. 12 or 13 should call Susan Henderson, elementary school secretary, to schedule an appointment. Students will not be able to enroll on the first day of school. For more information, call Henderson at 417-442-3217 extension 1.

Middle and high school students who are new to the district can also enroll for classes on Aug. 12 and 13. New students who are entering the sixth through 12th grades can register in the middle and high school offices from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

Parents and legal guardians must provide copies of their child's immunization records, birth certificate and Social Security number, the name and address of the child's previous school, a transcript of grades and proof of residency at the time of enrollment. Parents must also provide personal identification or custodial documentation.

Parents who are unable to enroll their students during the scheduled hours should call the middle school office at 417-442-7066 or the high school office at 417-442-3215 to schedule an appointment.

Students who enrolled for classes last spring will also be able to pick up schedules next week.

Middle school students entering seventh and eighth grades will be able to pick up their schedules in the middle school office from 9 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. on Aug. 14 and 15.

Seniors will be able to pick up schedules on Aug. 12. Schedules for junior class students will be available on Aug. 13, and sophomore students' schedules will be ready for pick up on Aug. 14. Schedules will be available in the high school counselor's office from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. on those days.

High school and middle school students should bring emergency contact information and updated immunization records to the school when they pick up their schedules. Students who need immunizations will not be allowed to enroll or pick up schedules until they submit new immunization documents to the school nurse.

All debts from the 2007-08 school year must be paid before schedules can be picked up.

Orientation sessions for fifth, sixth and ninth grade students will be held on Aug. 14. Fifth and sixth grade orientation will held in the middle school at 6 p.m., and freshmen orientation will be held in the cafeteria at 7 p.m.

Information about middle school and high school programs will be distributed during the orientation sessions, which students are encouraged to attend. Students, who must be accompanied by a parent, will receive schedules and locker assignments during orientation.

Purdy's 2008-09 school year will begin on Aug. 20. The school will open at 8 a.m. Students who do not have a scheduled after school activity will need to leave the building by 3:30 p.m. Bus routes have not changed.
