James Raymond Whistler, 89, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008, at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Jim was born in Beatrice, Nebraska on May 17, 1919 to Thomas and Anna (Nestleroad) Whistler. He was a World War II veteran. After the war he worked on the railroad, was a cook for twenty years, then worked for the United States Postal Service in Omaha, Nebraska, until he retired in 1984.
He lived throughout Nebraska, Missouri, and Colorado.
He married Mildred E. Cole in 1939, and they were married for 60 years until her death in 1999. They had two boys that died in infancy and adopted a boy and a girl from the Nebraska Children's Home in 1955.
He is survived by Susan M. Akerlund (daughter) of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Thomas J. Whistler (son) of Frederick, Colorado, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
His remains will be laid to rest at Westlawn-Hillcrest Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska next to his wife. The graveside memorial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday August 2, 2008. Paid
