Caroline Corine Garrett, 87, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2008.
She was born on Jan. 18, 1921, in Damar, Kan., daughter of George and Malvina Plante Newell. She was a natural artist and completed many beautiful paintings. She was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Cassville.
She married Leonard LaBarge who died on Nov. 27, 1944, while serving with the U.S. Armed Forces in Germany during World War II. She married Melvin Garrett on April 5, 1955, in Wichita, Kan., and he survives.
Additional survivors include: one son, Larry LaBarge and his wife, Joyce, of Topeka, Kan.; one grandson, Darin LaBarge and his wife, Terri, of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; one stepson Johnny Charles, of Sacramento, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Berna Gaye Weiland, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Elizabeth Ann of the state of California; one brother, Edward Newell and his wife, Anna, of Hoxie, Kan.; one brother-in-law, Glen Garrett, and his wife, Sharon, of Purdy. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Admore Newell and Armand Newell, and one sister, Ida Saindon, and another sister who died at a very young age.
A rosary service was held Tuesday at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Cassville, with Father David Miller officiating. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 3 at St. Joseph Church in Damar, Kan., under the direction of the Moore Overlease Funeral Home in Plainville, Kan. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, Aug. 1 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Damar, Kan., with interment services at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorials may be entrusted to the funeral home for the St. Edwards Catholic Church in Cassville, or the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Damar, Kan.
