leslie benton oakley, 88, of Texas City, Texas, formerly of Washburn, died June 16, 2008, at his home.

He was born April 14, 1920, in Washburn, the son of George and Edna (Dawson) Oakley. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and has been a resident of Texas City, Texas, for 51 years, where he owned Speed Electric Company for 20 years. He was highly respected in the electrical industry and served on many professional boards. He was a successful real estate investor and was involved in numerous construction projects.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; his parents; a brother, Vernon Oakley; and three sisters, Christene Watson, Imogene Hall and Nadine Roadman.

Survivors include: two daughters, Leslie Ann Hoover, of Texas City, Texas, and Cherri Oakley, of Dallas, Texas; one grandson; one great-grandson; two brothers, Murel Oakley, of Las Cruces, N.M., and Paul Oakley, of Kingsburg, Calif.; and three sisters, Josephine gline, of Boise, Idaho, Lorene Anaya, of Keller, Texas, and Allene Patterson, of Washburn.
