First Street project to be subject of meeting
City of Cassville officials will host a public meeting to discuss the First Street/Old Exeter Road renovation project with local citizens on Monday, July 21 at City Hall. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. prior to the council's regularly scheduled meeting at 6 p.m.
City Administrator Mike Hayslip said he mailed letters to every resident who lives on First Street to let them know about the public meeting.
"The purpose of the meeting is to inform interested parties of the proposed improvements and to provide an opportunity to ask questions or make comments," said Hayslip.
Roger Berg, an engineer with Scott Consulting of Springfield, will be present at the meeting to outline the project and help answer citizens' questions.
Last month, the Cassville City Council gave Berg the go ahead to design the road project, which will improve road conditions and drainage along First Street from Main Street to Highway 37.
Proposed improvements include: widening the street to make the roadway uniform; adding curb and guttering to both sides of the street; installing a storm sewer system; overlaying the roadway with two inches of asphalt; and adding a designated turn lane at Main Street. When the project is completed, First Street will be 30 feet wide from back of curb to back of curb.
Initial cost projections to complete the project are expected to total around $425,000.
Those who would like to comment on the project but are unable to attend the public meeting, may send written comments to the City Administrator, 300 Main St., Cassville, MO 65625.
