Triathlon attracts over 25 racers

The Cassville YMCA's "Y not Tri" sprint triathlon was held Saturday, July 12 at the Cassville Aquatic Park. The event consisted of a 400-yard swim, a 15-mile bike ride and a three-mile run. Over 25 people competed in the Cassville YMCA's "Y not Tri" sprint triathlon, which was held Saturday, July 12.

The event was based at the Cassville Aquatic Park and consisted of a 400-yard swim, a 15-mile bike ride and a three-mile run. A total of 19 individuals and three teams competed in the triathlon.

The first place team in this year's event included Erin Hardy, Lyon Hough and Caleb Masterson, who completed the triathlon in 1:18.00.

The second place team of Anthony Larson and Ryan Pace finished the course in 1:28.08, and the third place team of Cameron Efurd, Michelle Mayne-Nicholls and Cristina Mayne had a time of 1:47.56.

The top three individual competitors in each division are listed below.

* 15- to 29-year-old male division: Stephen O'Neal, 29, Rogers, Ark., 1:15.28, first place; Jonathan Hardy, 26, Springfield, 1:20.15, second; and Kevin Wimberly, 23, Monett, 1:32.59, third.

* 15- to 29-year-old female division: Courtney Efurd, 17, Rogers, Ark., 1:18.30, first; Julie Johannesen, 21, Bentonville, Ark., 1:25.45, second; and Jennifer Wimberly, 24, Monett, 1:32.27, third.

* 30- to 49-year-old male division: Carlton Efurd, 44, Rogers, Ark., 1:21.42, first; Bill Hagenburger, 43, Rogers, Ark., 1:28.25, second; and Brad Hamman, 33, Verona, 1:34.07, third.

* 30- to 49-year-old female division: Becky Efurd, 43, Rogers, Ark., 4:27.05, first; Niki Weber, 39, Monett, 1:36.19, second; and Stacy McKenzie, 39, Verona, 1:37.12, third.

* 50-plus male division: Randy Featherston, 57, Rogers, Ark., 1:16.27, first.

"We would also like to send out a special thanks to all volunteers, racers and the following sponsors," said Larry Boswell, race coordinator. "Thanks for making it a successful event."
