"This is the second year that we have had this award," said Chad Adams, Children's Center director. "We try to choose someone from the community in Barry or Lawrence county who volunteers their time to help out the Center and is a good resource for us to call upon when we need to."
The Trotters have volunteered their time to help the Children's Center for over four years, said Adams.
"Dr. Trotter performs our SAFE (sexual assault forensic exam) exams and oversees our nurse practitioners," said Adams. "We can call Don when we have questions about the community or need legal advice. They both come to all of our meetings, fundraisers and other events."
Individuals like the Trotters, who volunteer their time for the Center, are invaluable to the organization, said Adams.
"We have to have volunteers," said Adams. "We are a small business like any non-profit organization is, and we can't afford to have a big staff. There is no way that we could function without our volunteers. Not only do our volunteers head up large fundraising projects, but they help with little projects at the Center."
In addition to serving the Children's Center, Dr. Lisa Trotter works at St. John's Hospital. Attorney Don Trotter serves Barry and Lawrence counties from a law office in Monett.
