The Jenkins and Eagle Rock-Golden-Mano fire departments were the recipients of matching fund checks from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) last week. Jenkins received $2,262 and used the funding to purchase a chainsaw, mobile radio, light bar, blower, winch, backpack pumps, drip torches, shovels and rakes. Pictured above right are: Keith Peck, MDC resource technician; Brian Sisco, Jenkins fire chief; and Jerry Craig, MDC resource assistant. Eagle Rock receive $3,000, which the department used to purchase a mobile radio, light bar/siren, hose reel with hose and one ton crew cab brush truck. Pictured below, from left, are: Craig; Peck; Steve Gash; Mark Pierson, assistant fire chief; Bob Smith; and Danny Tollison. This summer, MDC will present 185 departments across Missouri with grants totalling $376,748. Funding for these grants is provided by the U.S. Forest Service and the MDC. During the last 26 years, nearly $5,149,685 has been distributed to rural fire departments through this program, which is aimed at increasing firefighter safety through better firefighting equipment. Local fire departments are required to match the funds received from MDC.
