Fireworks still part of Fourth of July events

Thursday, June 26, 2008

The night sky over Table Rock Lake will be the backdrop for two popular fireworks displays over the Fourth of July weekend.

Shell Knob's Fire and Thunder fireworks display will be held at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4, and the Eagle Rock-Golden-Mano Fire Protection District will present its "Fired Up & Smokin" fireworks show on Saturday, July 5 at nightfall.

Fire and Thunder, in its 33rd year, is the longest consecutively running show on Table Rock Lake. This year's display will once again be choreographed by Aaron Mayfield, an award-winning pyrotechnician.

Fireworks will be fired from a site one mile east of the Shell Knob Bridge, and the display can be viewed by land or water. Good viewing locations include any spot with a clear view of the southwest side of Shell Knob Mountain.

Prior to the fireworks show, the chamber will sponsor another of its holiday tradition with a Fourth of July boat parade. For the fourth year in a row, interested boaters will gather just south of Lost Hill Island and about one mile west of the Shell Knob Bridge and parade down the lake to Pla-Port Resort area. The parade of boats will be escorted by members of Shell Knob's Coast Guard Auxiliary. The fireworks display, sponsored by the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce, is free. The event is supported through donations and fundraisers. Fire and Thunder T-shirts are currently on sale at area businesses with all proceeds going to support the fireworks display.

In the event of inclement weather, the display will be held on July 5. For more information about the event, call the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce office at 417-858-3300.

The ERGM Fire Protection District is preparing for another exciting fireworks display this year. The show will take place on July 5 at the Eagle Rock Bridge over Table Rock, and fireworks can be viewed by boat or on land.

In addition to the fireworks, firefighters will also be hosting an old-fashioned barbecue at the Eagle Rock Marina, beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until the display begins.

The show is supported completely by donations and fundraising events. Anyone wishing to donate can mail their donations to the Eagle Rock-Golden-Mano Fire Department at 30625 State Highway 86, Eagle Rock, MO 65641. For more information about the event, call Fire Station #1 at 271-3642.
