A fire broke out on a boat that was travelling on Table Rock Lake near Viola on Saturday morning.
According to a report issued by the Missouri State Water Patrol, David Blythe, 49, of Roca, Neb., was operating his Malibu boat at approximately 35 miles per hour when he heard a pop and stopped to check the engine.
When Blythe opened the engine compartment, black smoked billowed out, and he and his daughter, Meghann Blythe, 21, left the boat and were picked up by another boater in the area.
The boat eventually burned completely to the water line. Damages, according to the Patrol report, are estimated at $60,000.
Both David and Meghann Blythe escaped the boat without injury. The incident occurred at 10:45 a.m. near Point 21 at Viola in Stone County.
