On May 8, the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library Board of Trustees voted to change the summer hours at four main branches.
This summer, Saturday hours at the Cassville, Monett, Aurora and Mt. Vernon library branches will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Weekday hours will not be changed.
The district began closing its main library branches early on Saturday afternoons in 2006. The change was made to better utilize staff members during the week when more patrons visit the library.
Normal Saturday hours, which are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., will resume before area school districts begin classes in August.
Jean Berg, library district director, reported that a rocking chair has been purchased for the Cassville Branch Library.
The chair was purchased by the Cassville Friends of the Library as a tribute to Marion Stubblefield, a former branch supervisor who served the Cassville Library for 50 years. Stubblefield retired on May 1.
Berg also reported that the library district's van was vandalized while it was parked behind the Monett Branch Library last month. The damage included a broken windshield.
A police report was filed, and an insurance agent was contacted regarding the damage. The library district was responsible for paying the insurance deductible to replace the windshield.
In other business, the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library Board of Trustees:
* Received an update on the Monett Branch Library building project.
* Heard that a Monett Friends of the Library group has been established to support extra programs at the Monett Library.
