He was born at Matoka, Okla., on Jan. 25, 1936, to John David Hayes and Thelma Mary Cornelius Hayes. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea. He was a self-employed brick mason and farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Viola, in 1992; three brothers, John David Hayes, Jr., Gene Francis Hayes, and Benny Everett Hayes; and three sisters, Arlene Roop, Ruth Guffey and Velma Hannah.
Survivors include: two sons, John Hayes, of Pineville, and Wade Hayes and his wife, Chryll, of Pea Ridge, Ark.; three sisters, Margaret Lewis, of topeka, Kan., Edith hayes, of Cherryville, Kan., and Mary Grotts, of Bentonville, Ark.; and six grandchildren.
Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Sisco Funeral Home, Pea Ridge, Ark.
