Rotary prepares prepares or 71st rodeo
It's rodeo time again in Cassville as the Cassville Rotary Club prepares to host its 71st annual rodeo on Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21.
Cowboys and cowgirls from different states will be converging on the Bill Hailey Arena this weekend to participate in the Rotary rodeo. This year's event will include bareback, saddlebronc, bull riding, calf roping, team roping, steer wrest-ling and barrel racing.
According to Stan Kelley, chairman of the Cassville Rotary Club's Rodeo Committee, 120 individuals have signed up to compete during the two-day rodeo, which is sanctioned by the IPRA and ACRA. Performances will begin nightly at 8 p.m.
"With this being the 71st year for the Rotary Club Rodeo, we hope to provide a quality and exciting rodeo for the fans in the community," said Kelley.
Due to their popularity last year, the Rotary Club has invited the members of the Denim and Diamond Drill Team from northwest Arkansas to perform for a second time. This group of talented young women includes Mary Kathryn Bryant, the daughter of James Bryant, of Cassville.
"A lot of favorable comments were received from fans last year regarding their performance," said Kelley. "The team displays quality horsemanship, pride, teamwork and enthusiasm in their performance."
Hampton Rodeo Co., from Springdale, Ark., will be the rodeo's stock producers, and each event features some of the top 10 ranked cowboys in the nation.
"We should see some excellent performances," said Kelley.
Rodeo tickets can be purchased in advance for a $1 discount from any Rotarian. At the gate, admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12.
A calf scramble will be held each night for children under the age of 10. Concessions will also be available.
