Evelyn Norman Epperly, 89, long time resident of Wichita, Kan., and Shell Knob, Mo, passed away June 13, 2008. She was born June 14, 1918, in Big Flat, Arkansas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Zola, and brothers, Keith, Kenneth, Carlos, Preston, Jesse Dean (J.D.), and sister, Maxine.

She is survived by her husband, Loren "Shorty", sons, Norman Keith (Betty), Loren Kelley (Kathy), Mark Kenneth (Lorraine) of Wichita, granddaughter, Ashley Michelle of Lawrence, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She grew up in Northeastern Oklahoma, graduated from Wainwright High School in Wainwright Oklahoma in 1935, attended Northwestern State University in Talequah, Oklahoma, and graduated with honors from the University of Oklahoma School of Nursing in Norman, Oklahoma in 1944.

She married Loren "Shorty" Epperly on November 12, 1949 in Bentonville, Arkansas. After moving to Wichita in 1956, she worked as a R.N. at Wesley, St. Francis, and St. Joseph hospitals in pediatrics until her retirement in 1983. She also worked as a LPN instructor at Wichita Vo-Tech during this time. Her retirement years were spent in Wichita and Shell Knob, Mo.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday. Service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, both at Lakeview Funeral Home. A memorial has been established with the University of Oklahoma School of Nursing in Norman, Oklahoma. Pd. obit.
