Kornerstone seeks financial assistance

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

Kornerstone, a non-profit organization that offers family and community education for Barry and Stone county residents, is seeking donations and sponsors to support its family literacy programs.

Kornerstone's programs, many of which are offered at no charge, include: Early Head Start; Head Start; the 21st Century Afterschool Program; the NovaNet Academic Credit Recovery Program; GED classes; and Teen Moms and Their Babies Program.

The organization operates on state and special grant money along with individual donations. Due to the current economy and legislative decisions, Kornerstone will lose a substantial amount of grant monies for its Family Literacy Program at the end of June.

Kornerstone officials are asking local individuals, businesses and organizations to make a monthly pledge, of any amount, to the organization for the next year. A goal has been established to sign up 150 sponsors by July 1.

With the help of local sponsors and supporters, the organization will be able to continue changing the lives of low-income children and families through educational services.

Individuals, businesses and organizations interested in supporting the Kornerstone program or receiving more information about the organization's educational services can call 417-858-2887.
