Vern Dalton, 76, of Washburn, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2008, in his home.
He was born Jan. 22, 1932, in Washburn, the son of Bent and Lona Elizabeth (Day) Dalton. On April 17, 1954, in Jane he was united in marriage to Lucy Mae Baker, who survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Danny and David Dalton; a daughter, Verna Mae Fry and her husband, Wallace; two sisters, Verbal Pendergraft and Norma Patterson; and two grandchildren, all of Washburn. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jody; a daughter, Tami; and a brother, Warren Ray Dalton.
He received his education in Washburn and was a lifelong resident of the Washburn area. During the Korean War he joined the United States Air Force serving from Jan. 18, 1952 until March 10, 1954. He did construction work on Beaver Dam and cleared the power line to Carthage then began farming.
He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and a charter member of the Cassville VFW where he served as senior vice commander. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Production Credit Association Board (Farm Credit Services Board) and served on the Southwest R-V School Board and Independent Bank of Aurora Board.
Funeral services were held on saturday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Burial with military honors was at Roller Cemetery, Washburn. Contributions may be made to St. John's Hospice or St. Jude's Hospital in his memory.
