J. Carl Ellston, 79, of Seal Rock, Ore., died on May 13 2008. He was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Exeter, son of John Charles and Jessie Mabel Ellston, both deceased. He attended Missouri Military Academy and received a bachelor's degree from Washington University in St. Louis as well as an M.B.A. from the University of Missouri.
For many years he was president of the Bank of Exeter. later he was a vice president at the Union National Bank of Springfield and The Exchange National Bank of Tampa, Fla. He taught at the University of South Florida, the University of Tampa, Hillsborough Community College (Tampa), Evangel College, Drury College, the American Institute of Banking, and Eastern Oregon University. He served his country as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After a lengthy first marriage to Blanche (Harp), in 1996 he married Dr. Sandra Klein (Fischer), who survives.
Additional survivors include: children, John Charles Ellston, of Baltimore, Joyce Anderson, Jeffrey Ellston, James Ellston, and Janet Ellston, of Tampa, Fla., and Darren Olson, of Portland, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Ellston.
A celebration of life will be held at Bateman's Mortuary in Newport, Ore., on Saturday, May 24 at 1 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter, under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Eastern Oregon University Foundation, where a scholarship has been established in his name.
