Francis Verle Nungesser, 88, of Mead, Nebraska, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, in Wahoo, Nebraska.
He was born Oct. 22, 1919, in Jefferson Township, Iowa, to Fredrick George and Edith Pearl (McGinnis) Nungesser. He married Lora Jensen in Des Moines, Iowa, on Nov. 28, 1940. He served in the United States Army for two years during World War II and then worked as a regional manager for Sun Oil Company. Following his retirement, he and Lora became very active members of All Faith United Methodist Church in Eagle Rock for 22 years. He was a life-long member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Bobby, and one brother, Cloyce.
Survivors include: his wife, Lora, of Mead, Neb.; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Don Headlee, of Yutan, Neb.; son, Don, of Lincoln, Neb.; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Deb Nungesser, of Lincoln, Neb.; sister, Verna Welch, of Iowa; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service was held Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Wahoo, Neb., with the Rev. Douglas Smith officiating. A committal service was held Monday at Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield, Iowa, with Rev. Karen Hoff officiating. A military graveside service was conducted by Head-Andrews American Legion Post #265.
