Wehr Construction, of Springfield, began placing new jail pods at the Barry County Jail in Cassville on May 7. Wehr Construction, of Springfield, poured the concrete foundation for the 16 pods in April. The new pods, which will feature three beds per cell, will increase the county's jail prisoner capacity from 32 to 80. According to Jan Reid-Smith, Barry County Jail administrator, prisoner capacity has been between 48 and 51 inmates for the last few weeks. Last year, the Barry County Commission awarded two bids totalling $472,815 to Tindall Corp., of Charlotte, N.C., for the new pods. The jail expansion project is scheduled to be completed by late summer.
