Cassville Wildcat track teams qualified nine athletes for sectionals, which will be held next Saturday at Branson. Both the boys' and girls' track teams travelled to Nevada on Monday to compete at the district meet, which was rescheduled from Saturday due to severe weather.

The boys' 4x100 relay team of sophomore Joseph Gouvion, senior Jacob Gouvion, senior Phillip Cooper and freshman Trevor Shumaker finished fourth at districts, which was just enough to send them on to sectionals and a chance to qualify for state.

Other sectional qualifers were sophomore Matt Angel, who finished fourth in high jump by clearing 6', and senior Billy Wright who placed third in discus with a throw of 159'11".

On the girls' side, senior Brittney Wilbanks led the Ladycats with a second place finish in the pole vault, an event she's excelled at all season. At Nevada, Wilbanks cleared 9'.

Sophomore Kristi Whitcomb placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.99, and senior Misty Long finished fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:32.

Other district results for the Ladycats were: Risa Darveaux, eighth, 100-meter dash, 13.23; Tia Baker, eighth, 800-meter run, 2:36; 4x200 relay team of Ron'L Hoff, Paige Hukill, Nanci Young and Darveaux, seventh; and the 4x100 relay team of Hoff, Hukill, Wilbanks and Darveaux, fifth.

At sectionals, the top four finishers in each event will advance to the state track and field championships.

Head coach of the Wildcat boys' track squad is David Large, and the head girls' coach is Brian Wilbanks. They are assisted by Jay Rogers and Bob Deffenbaugh.
