It is incredible to watch history being made, and that is what happened this basketball season in Barry County.
The Exeter Lady Tigers were predicted to finish 3rd in the Ozark 7 Conference this year, and also to go out in the first round of district play. This group of talented young ladies proved these predictions wrong, not only by winning the Ozark 7 Conference with an undefeated record, but also by winning the Class 1 District 4 Championship by defeating last year's state champs, Walnut Grove.
This is the first district championship ever for the Exeter Lady Tigers, so to see them go on and win sectionals against Bradleyville was icing on the cake.
Unfortunately, their streak came to an end on Saturday at the state quaterfinals in West Plains. The Tigers came up short to Delta, an older and more experienced team, by 6.
A truly amazing thing happened during this time. Communities that have been major rivals over the years came together to support and cheer for our girls. The number of people for Exeter in the stands at West Plains was unbelievable. Barry County must have been half empty that day!
I believe I can speak for the entire town of Exeter, if not for most of Barry County, when I say, "We are so proud of you, Exeter Lady Tigers! We love you girls, and go get 'em next year!"
