Opal C. McGuire, 91, of Jefferson City, passed away March 1, 2008, at the Moniteau Care Center in California, Mo. She was born March 20, 1916, in Seymour, a daughter of William Elisha and Julia Angeline (Reeves) Sweet.

During World War II, she aided the war effort by being a real life Rosie the Riveter in a factory in Los Angeles, Calif. She also worked for the U.S. post office in Prairie Grove, Ark. she married Walter M. McGuire, on Nov. 12, 1950, in Wichita, Kan.

Survivors include: one son Bill McGuire, and his wife, Brenda, of Jefferson City; one step-son, Kerry McGuire, of Marietta, Ga.; one step-daughter, Mona Halliburton, of Severy, Kan.; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; sister, Velda Ragsdale; and three brothers, Edgar, Louie and Glen.

A graveside service was held today (March 5) at Westville City Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home in Westville, Okla.
