Mary Malissa Bryant Smothers, age 101, of Cassville, Missouri, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at Red Rose Inn in Cassville.

She was born September 26, 1906 to James Clinton and Elmira Elizabeth Bolton in Verona, Missouri.

She lived her entire life in Barry and Lawrence counties except for several winters that she spent in Harlingen, Texas. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cassville.

She taught school in Golden, Missouri, where she met and married Melvin Bryant in April, 1926. He passed away January, 1960. She married R.G. Smothers September, 1967 and he died in December, 1987.

She is survived by one son, Jim Bryant, Mary Ann James, of Eagle Rock; one daughter, Janice Sims, and her husband, Robert, of Centennial, Colorado; three grandchildren, James Bryant, of Cassville, Joel Bryant, and his wife, Kristi, of Cassville, and Jeff Sims of Denver, Colorado; three great-grandchildren, Kaylyn Bryant, of Cassville, Mary Kathryn Bryant and Jared Bryant, of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; three nieces; and two nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Corinth Baptist Church in care of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008, in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville, Missouri, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Doyle Russell conducted the service. Paid
