The Cassville Ladycats picked up two Big 8 Conference victories last week in three contests.
| Cassville faced the Monett Lady Cubs on Monday, Feb. 4 and won 49-39. The Ladycats jumped out to an 8-2 lead over Monett and slowly increased their lead throughout the contest. At half-time, Cassville led 22-15 and increased the score to 33-22 before the fourth quarter. |
Senior Brittany Vollenweider had a big game with 17 points and nine rebounds. Gail Edie was also a key contributor with 11 points and seven rebounds. Others scoring for Cassville were: Marti Richmiller 12, Hannah Elkins 5 and Gabby LeCompte and Brittney Wilbanks 2 each.
"We put four solid quarters together and played really well," said Coach Chris Shore. "I am proud of our team's effort."
| On Friday, the Ladycats got another important victory in the conference race. The squad hosted Lamar and won the contest 49-38. Cassville again got off to a good start, outscoring Lamar 16-7 in the first frame; however, Lamar rallied and cut the lead to two at half-time. |
| After half, both teams held pace with the third quarter ending with Cassville on top 34-32. The Ladycats showed good determination in the fourth, putting the game away by outscoring the Lady Tigers 15-6. |
| Vollenweider had another solid night for Cassville, scoring 18 for the Ladycats. Others scoring for Cassville included Edie 9, Richmiller 8, LeCom-pte 7, Wilbanks 5 and Elkins 2. |
| The Ladycats had one more contest this week, traveling to East Newton last Thursday. Cassville struggled to score in the contest and fell 26-35. |
| With the two victories, the Ladycats move to 2-3 in conference play effectively moving them from the bottom of the Big 8. The squad will play again Thursday against Seneca at home. |
The Ladycats open district play at Carl Junction on Monday, Feb. 18. Cassville is slated to take on Carthage in a 7:30 p.m. game.
