Nelson Franklin Hipkins, 72, of Shell Knob, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, in North Arkansas Regional Medical Center, Harrison, Ark.

He was born Sept. 13, 1935, in Chester, Penn., the son of Benjamin Franklin and Ruth Elmarie (Hines) Hipkins. On Sept. 5, 1987, in Victorville, Calif., he was united in marriage to Connie Rose Butler, who survives.

Additional survivors include: three daughters, Teresa "Sue" Cuna, and her husband, Joe, of Reeds Spring, Lori LeCure, and her husband, Tim, of Branson, and Angela "Angel" Belvins, and her husband, Ted, of Shell Knob; his father, Frank Hipkins, and his wife, Dot, of Ridley Park, Penn.; a brother, James Hipkins, of Prospect Park, Penn.; a sister, Harriet Williams, of Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He graduated from high school in Ridley Park, Penn., then entered the United States Air Force. He continued with his college education while in the military. During his 31 years in the service at Northrop, he helped in the development of the B2 bomber and served two tours in Vietnam. He was very active in Boy Scouts and a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and Amvets. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Services will be conducted by Rev. Bob Gaddis. Burial will be at Lake Park Memorial Gardens, Shell Knob.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday in Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.
