Lady Trojans down Wheaton. The Southwest girls' squad downed Wheaton 66-35 in an Ozark 7 contest this week. Jessica Mitchell led Southwest with 22 points, three three-pointers, six steals and seven assists. Wheaton was led by Haley Goostree's 10 points.
Purdy finishes off College Heights. The Purdy Lady Eagles put to rest a rally by College Heights in a non-conference match-up this week and won the contest 61-42. After Purdy took a big lead in the first quarter, College Heights rallied and trailed by only 4 points at half, but the Lady Eagles finished strong, outscoring the Lady Cougars 21-5 in the third quarter. Audrey Patton led Purdy with 14 points, and Shelby White and Avery Roller both chipped in 12.
Boys Action
Bulldog rally falls short. The Wheaton Bulldogs, trailing by 12 at the end of three quarters of play, cut the deficit to 5 but could not get any closer in a 50-55 conference loss to McAuley Catholic. McAuley's Kevin O'Keefe hurt Wheaton's cause picking up a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. He also had four steals. For Wheaton, Sean Crane, Jon Pendergraft and Donovan Bartkoski each had 12 points.
Southwest can't top Pierce City. The Trojans just couldn't keep it up for four full quarters. The Trojans matched Pierce City step for step for three quarters of a non-conference contest but were outscored 24-18 in the final frame resulting in a 67-73 loss. Caleb Mitchell led the Trojans with 26 points.
