The Cassville Ladycats did not get off to the start they would have liked to in 2008. The squad dropped two games this week, 25-35 to Blue Eye and 34-53 to Carl Junction.
Against the Blue Eye Bulldogs, Cassville started strong and led 12-7 after the first quarter. But for the remaining three quarters, Blue Eye enforced a full court press that effectively shut down the Ladycats.
After scoring 12 points in the first quarter, the Ladycats could muster only 13 more for the entire game, and although Blue Eye was not scoring often, it was enough to get a 35-25 victory.
Hannah Elkins led all of Cassville's scorers in the contest with 10 points.
Others scoring for Cassville were Gabby LeCompte 5, Brittany Vollenweider 4, Brittney Wilbanks 4 and Marti Richmiller 2.
In Cassville's second contest of the week, the Ladycats took on Carl Junction.
Cassville let things get away quickly and trailed 15-35 at the half.
The Ladycats played solid in the final two quarters but could not catch up with the Lady Bulldogs, finally losing 34-53.
Vollenweider led scoring for Cassville in that game, tallying 16 points.
Others scoring for the Ladycats were Gail Edie 5, Richmiller 4, LeCompte 3, Lindsey Turner 3, Wilbanks 2 and Elkins 1.
The girls will prepare for two conference contests this week. The squad travels to Mt. Vernon on Thursday and hosts East Newton on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Both games will be broadcast on 95.9 KKBL.
