Students to compete in Elks Hoop Shoot

The annual Elks Hoop Shoot, a free-throw contest for students between the ages of 8 and 13, will be held at the Eureka Springs Middle School in Arkansas at noon on Jan. 12.

Cassville Intermediate and Middle School students Gavin White, Brooke Fields, Carrie Agans, Ty Craig, Katie Hughes and Gabe Kirk will be competing against students from Berryville, Ark., Eureka Springs, Ark., Green Forest, Ark., and Huntsville, Ark.

Students will compete against students in their age group. The winner and runner-up of each division will receive a trophy and advance to the Arkansas Hoop Shoot, which will be held in Hot Springs, Ark., on Feb. 9.

State winners will compete at a regional competition in Paris, Tenn., on March 8. The national Hoop Shoot finals will be held in Springfield, Mass. The names of the national winners will be inscribed on a plaque at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame.

Eureka Springs Elks Lodge #1042 has sponsored the Hoop Shoot program for 37 years. Each year, over 3 million students from all 50 states compete in the free-throw event.
