The Cassville Ladycats had only one game this past week. The squad hosted Reeds Spring (1-8) and simply overpowered them for a 59-43 victory.
The Lady Wolves kept the game close for awhile. Cassville started the first quarter with a 6-1 run, but Reeds Spring countered with a 7-1 run and took the lead briefly before Cassville tied it at 13.
With a 16-16 tie in the second frame, Cassville took the initiative and closed the half on a 14-2 run, giving them a 30-20 advantage going into the half-time locker room.
To start the third quarter, the Lady Wolves appeared to have a comeback in mind and cut the lead to seven. The Ladycats rallied and used scoring runs of 8-0 and 12-2 to put the game away.
Hannah Elkins and Gabby LeCompte were both influential in Cassville's dynamic third quarter, combining for 16 of Cassville's 20 points in the frame.
Cassville's offense definitely got going in the game as they scored a season-high 59 points in the contest. The team out-rebounded Reeds Spring 28-22. The 'Cats also took care of the ball, turning it over only 11 times.
Possibly Cassville's only concern in the contest was fouls. The Ladycats committed 15 and lost top scorer Brittany Vollenweider in the fourth quarter after she fouled out.
Individually, Vollenwei-der led Cassville. The senior had 19 points on the night with six rebounds. LeCompte also seemed to step up her game. She finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
Others scoring for Cassville included Elkins 11, Gail Edie 6, Misty Long 5, Marti Richmiller 4 and Lindsey Turner 1.
Tawni Freeman led Reeds Spring with 15 points and four rebounds.
Cassville now moves to 3-6 on the season. The Ladycats will play again Thursday against Billings. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m. due to a boys game later in the night. The contest will be broadcast on 95.9 KKBL.
