Fred James Hoover, 86, of Exeter, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield.

He was born April 14, 1921, in Kansas City, the son of Minor James and Wilma (Dake) Hoover. On Nov. 14, 1945 in San Francisco, Calif., he was united in marriage to Bernice Clark, who survives. Additional survivors include: four sons, David Hoover, of Oregon, Calif., Mark Hoover, of Exeter, Rodger Hoover, of Verona, and Greg Hoover, of Aurora; a daughter, Melissa Reel, of Missouri; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

He graduated from high school in Kansas City and also attended college there. In 1946 he joined the United States Coast Guard. He was with the Independence, Missouri, Fire Department for 19 years and retired as captain. After his retirement he moved to Exeter to make his home. He was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Cassville.

Funeral services were held Friday in St. Edwards Catholic Church, Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
