Vineta M. Smith, 70, of Jenkins, died on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at the Barry County Care Center in Cassville.
She was born on April 10, 1937, in Ridgley, daughter of Olen and Gladys Slagle Brattin. She was a lifelong resident in the Cato community and a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. She married Glenn Thomas on Sept. 26, 1954, in Ridgley, and of that union six children were born. She was a homemaker.
She married William Smith on Oct. 9, 1976, in Cassville; he preceded her in death on June 10, 1998.
Survivors include: three sons, Lynn Thomas, of Torrance, Calif., David Thomas, of Moberly, and George Thomas, of Butterfield; three daughters, Jena Ferrell and her husband, Joe, of Exeter, Beverly Smith, of Jenkins, Merry Lucas and her husband, James, of Berryville, Ark.; three step-sons, Donnie Smith and his wife, Kandi, of Clifty, Ark., David Smith, of Clifty, Ark., and Darrell Smith, and his wife, Jennifer, of Cassville; three step-daughters, Cindy Leftwich and her husband, Bill, of Clifty, Ark., Lisa Davis, of Clifty, Ark., and Angela Smith and her husband, Brent, of Casper, Wyo.; five brothers, Kenny Brattin of Wheaton, Ronald Brattin, of Lee's Summit, Lester Brattin, of Lee's Summit, Gary Brattin, of Exeter, Mark Brattin, of Wheaton; three sisters, Olena Harvey, of Clifty, Ark., Christine Parks, Larry, of Pleasant Hill, and Debbie Phelps, of Wheaton; 34 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Brattin; and one grandson.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at the White Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Bobby Harrison conducted the service. Burial was at Concord Cemetery in Ridgley.
