Fall athletes garner multiple awards

The fall athletic seasons have finally come to a close and with it came many awards for Barry County competitors.

Cross Country

Barry County sent 24 runners to the state competition this year. The record year helped bring about many All-Region nominations.

Caleb Mitchell, a junior from Southwest, and Audrey Patton, a freshman from Purdy, both garnered second team All-Region honors as chosen by the Southwest Missouri Cross Country Coaches Association.

In addition, a number of other county runners were given honorable mentions. They include: Dustin Breed-love, Southwest; Jacob Jennings, Southwest; Sean Crane, Wheaton; Charlotte Buttrum, Southwest; and Shannon Burns, Wheaton.

Softball

The Purdy Lady Eagles were likely the area's most successful softball squad, advancing all the way to the state quarterfinals before being eliminated.

Purdy players garnered the following awards: Katlyn Graves, first team All-Region, first team All-District; BreAnn Proctor, first team All-Region, first team All-District; Avery Roller, second team All-Region, first team All-District; Brooke Swadley, second team All-Region, first team All-District; Shelby Davidson, second team All-Region, first team All-District; and Emily Williams, second team All-District.

Haley Clifton from South-west was also named to the second team All-Region team.

Volleyball

All of the area volleyball teams were eliminated in their respective districts this year, but the county did claim one conference championship in Southwest's winning of the Ozark 7 Conference.

Two players from the area were named to the All-Region team. Haley Goostree from Wheaton garnered second team honors and Exeter's Whitney Edie was an honorable mention.

Area players dominated the Ozark 7 All-Conference selections.

Summer Stephens of Southwest led that group being named the conference's Player of the Year.

Players on the first team included Goostree, Jessica Mitchell of Southwest and Edie.

Those garnering second team honors were: Megan Littlefield, Wheaton; Sam Elkins, Southwest; and Shelby Bowman, Exeter.

Samantha Pierce from Wheaton and Purdy's Emilee Kast both received All-Ozark 7 honorable mentions.
