Roger Allen Surfus, 59, of Shell Knob, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, in his home after a courageous battle with ALS.

He was born Jan. 8, 1948, in Huntington, Ind., the son of James Henry and Helen Catherine (Oswalt) Surfus. On Jan. 26, 1969, in Wabash, Ind., he was united in marriage to Sandra Sue Kilander, who survives.

Additional survivors include: two sons, Tim Surfus and his wife, Jeanine, of Palmyra, Penn., and Scott Surfus and his wife, Samantha, of Shell Knob; a daughter, Tammy Kopp and her husband, Chuck, of O'Fallon; his mother, H. Catherine Surfus, of Majenica, Ind.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.

He attended elementary and high school in Lancaster, Ind. He received his bachelor of science degree from Purdue University, Indiana and a masters in mechanical science from University of Missouri at Rolla. While living in O'Fallon, he was a Boy Scouts troop leader and worked on the Building Committee for Church of the Shepherd in St. Louis. He was Senior Mechanical Engineer for McDonald Douglas-Boeing He was a member of the Central Community United Methodist Church in Shell Knob.

Funeral services were held Sunday in Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Pastor Dean Wilson conducted the services. Burial was at Lake Park Memorial Gardens, Shell Knob.
