Marjorie D. Pennel, 98, of Hemphill, Texas, formerly of Butterfield, passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, in San Augustine Memorial Hospital, San Augustine, Texas.

She was born Feb. 14, 1909, in Barry County, the daughter of Harve and Hattie (Morton) Catron. On March 31, 1929, she was united in marriage to Leon Pennel who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Morton McQueen; a sister, Frances Shouts; a granddaughter; and a great granddaughter.

Survivors include: a daughter, Rosalie Mead and her husband, Oliver, of Hemphill, Texas; three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and eighteen great-great grandchildren.

She received her education in Purdy where she graduated from high school. Along with being a homemaker, she helped run the dairy farm and for several years was secretary of the Sparks Cemetery Association. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Star City and the extension club.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sparks Cemetery, Butterfield, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Jerry Nickle will conduct the services.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
