Volleycats take second in tourney

This weekend, Cassville tallied its first wins of the season and placed second overall at the Southwest Volleyfest tournament. On Saturday, the Ladycats posted three wins and claimed victory for the first time all season.

The Ladycats swept Southwest, Exeter and Shiloh Christian. The teams only losses were to Blue Eye, who beat them twice to claim the championship.

Marti Richmiller was key for Cassville and was named to the All-Tournament team.

Cassville also played two conference contests this weekend, losing to Carl Junction 13-25, 9-25 and Mt. Vernon 20-25, 17-25.

Richmiller again led the Ladycats with six digs, six kills and one ace in the contests.

Olivia Cline also had a good week, tallying 11 assists as well as an ace.

Others who contributed for Cassville included Destiny Massey, Chelsea Addison, Stephanie Sizemore, Airica Baker and Natalie Cline.

Cassville's overall record increases to 3-11.

The Volleycats will host both Aurora (2-5, 2-2) and Seneca (1-2, 1-1) this week. The Lady Houn's come to town on Thursday and Seneca on Tuesday. Both contests will begin at 6 p.m.

JV Action

The Cassville junior varsity squad also struggled this week, losing to both Carl Junction and Mt. Vernon. The team led against the Lady Bulldogs after winning the first set 25-19, but then dropped both remaining sets 20-25, 19-25 to lose the match. They also lost to Mt. Vernon 9-25, 10-25.
