Donald Dean Waits, 69, of Shell Knob, passed away at his home Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007.

He was born Sept. 28, 1937, in Meade, Kan., the son of Edgar Joseph and May Belle (McGlothlin) Waits. On March 29, 1959, in Cimarron, Kan., he was united in marriage to Patty Mae Lee, who survives.

Additional survivors include: two sons, Allan Waits and his wife, Lori, of Overland Park, Kan., and Bryan D. Waits, of Chesterfield, Va.; one daughter, Teri Kendall and her husband, Benjamin, of Joplin; one brother, Ronald Waits and his wife, Jean, of Wichita, Kan.; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Evelyn, and one brother, Richard.

He grew up and attended grade school in Burlington and Salina, Kan. He graduated from Wichita East High School and continued his education at Wichita State University. In 1969, he began employment with Rounds & Porter Building Products, aka, Boise Cascade and later became a general manager. The family made their homes in Wichita, Kansas, St. Joseph, Missouri and Tulsa, Okla., before moving to Shell Knob. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Shell Knob and served as an Elder. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., today (Wednesday) in Trinity Presbyterian Church, Shell Knob, under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Pastor Walter Dellow and Pastor Gary Thomas conducted the services. Burial was at Viola Cemetery, Viola.
