Derease "Dee" Bones, 80, of Reedsport, Ore., died on July 24, 2007, at Reedsport Lower Umpqua Extended Care Hospital of complications related to breast cancer. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Aug. 4 at the Elks Wapiti Park up Drift Creek, in Lincoln City, Ore.

She was born on Oct. 16, 1926, in Cassville, to Flossie May (Gaylor) and Benton Starkey. She was the seventh of nine children. She was raised in Cassville and graduated from Cassville High School in 1946. She worked as a candy stripper in high school.

She moved to Hopewell, Ore., in 1947, and went to work for General Hospital in McMinnville, Ore., as a nurse's aid. She met Robert Bones, while he was in the hospital and they married on Jan. 7, 1949, in McMinnville.

Survivors include: her husband, Robert, of Reedsport, her sons and daughter in laws, Ammon "Pete" and Joy, of Vancouver, Wash., Ben and Cindy, of Otis, Ore., Bob and Anita, of Union, Ore., and Jeffrey, of Lincoln City, Ore., her daughter, Linda Poage, of Reedsport, Ore., her sisters, Marcella Long, of Joplin, Colleen Hensen, of Ridgley, and Doogie Harvey, of Cassville; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
