Jimmy Wayne "Jim" McCracken, 71, of Purdy, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Cox South Hospital, Springfield. He was born Oct. 29, 1935, in Purdy, the son of the late Floyd and Mayme McGuire McCracken. He retired after 17 years as police chief in Purdy, but still worked as a Barry County deputy in Cassville. He married Darlene Cole March 22, 1986, in Purdy and she survives.
Addition survivors include: three sons, David McCracken, of Plano, Texas; Danny McCracken, of Rogers, Ark., and Lewis Martin Jr, of Purdy; three daughters, Vicky McCracken, of Springfield, Lora Martin, of Monett, and Patty Chardon, of Purdy; one brother, Eldon McCracken, of Pioneer, and one sister, Ruby Betterton, of Purdy, nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother Danny McCracken and one grandson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home, Monett. Burial was at Arnhart Cemetery, Purdy.
