Ivan Dale Lawson, 73, of Shell Knob, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2007.
He was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Springfield, the son of Wade and Lennie (Bilyeu) Lawson. On June 18, 1961, in Mt. Vernon, he was united in marriage to Jackie Hastings, who survives.
Additional survivors include: two sons, Stephen Dale Lawson, of Plano, Texas, and Christopher Dale "Chris" Lawson and his wife, Jeanette, of Carl Junction; three daughters, Stephanie Denice Smith and her husband, Greg, of Plano, Texas, Natalie DeAnne Exner and her husband, Jim, of Plano, Texas, and Andrea Hall, of Shawnee, Kan.; one brother, Wade Lawson, Jr. and his wife, Evelyn, of Lucasville, Ohio; and eleven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He received his education in Springfield, where he graduated from high school. He attended three years of college at SMSU. From Jan. 9, 1952, until July 9, 1954, he served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and then joined the Reserves until Jan. 8, 1960. For 35 years he was in the retail business and became general manager of J.C. Penney stores in Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas and Kansas. He moved from Richardson, Texas, to Shell Knob nine years ago to make his home.
He was a member of VFW Post 2203, First Christian Church, Kappa Alpha Order, Joplin Chamber of Commerce, Elks Club and the Marine Corps League.
Memorial services were held Tuesday in Shell Knob First Christian Church under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Pastor Louie Celaya conducted the services. Military honors were conducted by VFW Post #2203.
