Tourney plans keep growing

The State Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament that will be held here in Cassville continues to add attractions for attendees.

The newest additions are vast and include items from free ice cream to another concert. The tournament officially starts Thursday, July 26 with the first game beginning at 9 a.m. Opening ceremonies will take place that night at 5 p.m.

The tournament will offer a great deal for baseball fans of all ages. Hiland Dairy is going to be on hand to give away free hand-dipped ice cream. However, you can't be a cheapskate, because you have to buy a ticket to a game to get it.

Also added will be some good dinner options. County Caterin' will be smoking ribs and chicken on opening night. Their entrees also include baked beans, potato salad and much more.

During games, there will also be competitions for the crowd. These contests include a three-legged sack race, a pop fly contest and a pitching challenge.

More sound will be added to the weekend when the tournament hosts a concert put on by the Roaring River Sound on Friday night. That is in addition to the concert by the Hometown Sound on Thursday night. Also Rob Evans from KOLR-10 will be announcing the first inning as well as doing a TV spot for FOX-27 and KOLR-10 news.

The majority of games will be played Thursday, Friday and Saturday with the championship round starting on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Tickets are sold in pass type deals. An individual day pass is $5 for adults and $4 for kids age 8-12. The pass, if bought on the first day, includes the opening night festivities. A family pass, which is good for four people for everything costs $50. An individual tournament pass is $15.

For those who just want to attend the opening night festivities, the cost will be $3 for adults and $1 for children.

All children age 7 or younger get in free to the event.
