Marge Wilcox, 78, of Shell Knob, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007, in her home.
She was born May 1, 1929, in Lexington, Miss., the daughter of Herbert and Elizabeth (Herring) Downer. On June 17, 1951, in Lexington, Miss., she was united in marriage to Herbert Wilcox, who preceded her in death in Oct. 19, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Elizabeth Anne Carroll; two brothers, Herbert "Brother" Downer and Al Downer and one sister, Dorothy "Dot" Bishop.
Survivors include: one daughter, Lynne Timmons and her husband, Mike, of Grain Valley; three sisters, Ruth Downer, of Houma, La., Louise Acy, of Silver Creek, Miss., and Pat Hanna, of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters-in-law, Waldean Winstead, of Jackson, Miss., Alice Wilcox, of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Wanda Mack Gibson, of Orlando, Fla., and one granddaughter, Emily Anne Carroll, of Eagle Rock.
She graduated from high school in Lexington, Miss., then continued her education and was an honor graduate from Belhaven College in Jackson, Miss. In 1969 she moved to Shell Knob to make her home. She was an organic gardener, homemaker, and substitute teacher at Branson and Shell Knob. She was a charter member of Central Community United Methodist Church in Shell Knob and a Girl Scout Leader for 12 years.
Private graveside services were held Friday at Viola Cemetery, Viola, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Pastor Bob Gaddis conducted the services.
