A Cassville area man was shot outside a local sports bar on Friday night and an Eagle Rock man has been charged with the shooting.
Larry J. Castoe, 58, is currently being held in Barry County Jail on charges of first degree assault and armed criminal action. He pleaded not guilty to the charges during a formal arraignment on Monday morning.
Castoe was taken into custody shortly after 7 p.m. on June 22 by officers with the Cassville Police Department. Cas-toe is accused of shooting Clarence Lee Routh once in the stomach.
According to Cass-ville Police Chief Lonnie McCullough, some sort of dispute transpired bet-ween Castoe and Routh and the two men left the bar together to settle matters outside.
Witnesses said they heard a shot fired and found Routh lying on the ground with a shotgun wound in the stomach and Castoe holding a shot gun. The victim was airlifted to Cox Hospital in Spring-field, and on Monday, was listed in stable condition.
McCullough said he is not certain of an exact motive for the shooting.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Cassville Police Officer Donald Privett, Castoe was in possession of the shot gun when law enforcement officers arrived at the scene. He was taken into custody without incident.
Privett's report also indicated that Castoe's clothing was covered in blood.
Privett, four other Cassville police officers, McCullough and two deputies with the Barry County Sheriff's Department were on scene within minutes of the shooting.
Jersey's Sports Bar is located on Highway 112 in the Hilltop area.
