Lawrence Leland Sloop, 78, of Shell Knob, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2007, in Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.
He was born Nov. 4, 1928, in McPherson, Kan., the son of Lawrence Samuel and Elmyra Mae (Hall) Sloop. On June 1, 1947, in Wichita, Kan., he was united in marriage to Arlene Louise Bacon, who survives.
Additional survivors include: one son, Larry Dean Sloop, of Holiday, Fla.; one daughter, Trudy Christine (Sloop) Asplund and her husband, Allan, of Grinnell, Iowa; one sister, Jean Spain, of Newton, Kan.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
He received his education in McPherson, Kan., where he graduated from high school. Most of his life was spent as a self-employed manufacturer representative. He served in the National Guard. In 1999 he and Arlene moved from Wichita, Kan., to Shell Knob to make their home. He was a member of the Methodist Faith.
Memorial services were held today (Wednesday) in Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Rev. Marilyn Buchanan, of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, conducted the services. A flag presentation was conducted by VFW Post 2203.
