Rotary rodeo ready to ride into Cassville
The Cassville Rotary Club is gearing up for its 70th annual rodeo, which will be held at the Bill Hailey Arena on Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16.
"The number of cowboys signed up to participate in this year's rodeo is good," said Stan Kelley, who is serving on this year's rodeo committee along with Dennis Baker, Gene Miekley and Johnnie Cox.
"As of Monday, over 162 cowboys and cowgirls have signed up for various events during the two-day rodeo," said Kelley.
The IPRA/ACRA-sanctioned rodeo will feature a performance by Denim and Diamonds Quadrill Team from northwest Arkansas. The team will perform a variety of routines, displaying quality horsemanship, teamwork and enthusiasm.
Among the Denim and Diamonds team members is Mary Kathryn Bryant, daughter of James Bryant, of Cassville.
This year's rodeo stock will be provided by Hampton Rodeo Co., of Springdale, Ark., and comedic entertainment will be provided by Mike Wentworth.
Candice Carper, Miss Rodeo USA, from Banning, Calif., is also scheduled to attend the rodeo on Friday and Saturday nights. Carper will be featured in the Grand Entry parade and available to sign autographs during the rodeo.
Rodeo attendees will be treated to a variety of events, including: bareback riding; saddlebronc riding; bull riding; calf roping; team roping; steer wrestling; and cowgirl barrel racing. A calf scramble will be held nightly for children under the age of 10.
"We will again have some of the top 10 ranked cowboys performing in their respective events at the rodeo," said Kelley. "Attendees should see some excellent performances."
Adults attending the rodeo event will be admitted at a cost of $8 per person, and children, who are 12 or younger, will be admitted for $4.
Rodeo tickets can be purchased in advance from any Cassville Rotary Club member. Individuals will receive a $1 discount on each adult ticket purchased in advance.
Rodeo entertainment will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The Bill Hailey Arena is located on Business Highway 37 north of Cassville.
