After one day of play, Taylor Vanzandt, a sophomore from Cassville High School, was tied for 38th place in the Missouri Class 3 golf championship at Deer Lake Country Club in Springfield. He shot a 77 on the first day, just nine shots back from the lead and only six over par.
Vanzandt did even better his second day. He birdied two of his final five holes in what were tough conditions, giving him a score of 74 and a 151 total. He rose all the way to 16th on the second day, finishing nine strokes off the lead and over par.
