The Class 3, District 6 golf tournament was held this past week, and Cassville's Taylor Vanzandt qualified to compete in the state tournament.
"I am very excited for Taylor," said CHS Golf Coach Lance Parnell. "He picked a great time to play his best golf of the spring."
Vanzandt, who recently finished first in the Big 8 Conference, shot an 80 at the district meet, which was just enough to qualify. He hopes to continue his golf career well after high school.
"For Taylor to qualify as a sophomore is a great accomplishment," said Parnell.
The sophomore will compete in the state tournament at Deer Lake Golf Course on Monday, May 14 and Tuesday, May 15.
Cassville's other competitors at districts were: Kyle Mills, who shot an 88; Ryan Stockton, who shot an 89; Laith Hayward, who shot a 90; and Justin Mills, who shot a 93.
Cassville as a team did not fare as well as they had hoped, finishing seventh with a 347 combined score. Webb City won the event with a score of 306.
This Saturday, the CHS golf program is hosting a fundraiser tournament at the Cassville Golf Course. For more information or to enter, call the golf course at 847-2399.
