Wednesday, May 2, 2007

The Cassville Middle School boys and girls track teams had a great showing at the Pierce City Relays on April 23 with the Ladycats placing first as a team and the boys finishing second overall.

In a combined seventh and eighth grade format, the Cassville girls came out on top in a 17-team field.

'It was interesting to see our girls competing across their age divisions and exciting to see them represent us so well,' said Coach Mandy Henry.

Medalists for the Ladycats included Risa Darveaux, Danielle Pianalto and the seventh grade 400-meter relay team.

Darveaux placed first in the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the high jump. Pianalto claimed silver in the 100-meter dash and the triple jump. The 400-meter relay team also brought home a gold medal.

Boys action

Wildcat runners accumulated a total of 91 points behind their hosts who finished first with 104 points. A total of 23 teams competed in the boys division, making it the largest meet Cassville has attended this season.

Second place finishers were Jonathon Saucedo in the discus and both the 800-meter and 400-meter relays. Lewright, Chris Smith, Trenton Tanner and Shumaker make up both relay teams.
