The Cassville Middle School boys and girls track teams had a great showing at the Pierce City Relays on April 23 with the Ladycats placing first as a team and the boys finishing second overall.
In a combined seventh and eighth grade format, the Cassville girls came out on top in a 17-team field.
'─˙It was interesting to see our girls competing across their age divisions and exciting to see them represent us so well,'─¨ said Coach Mandy Henry.
Medalists for the Ladycats included Risa Darveaux, Danielle Pianalto and the seventh grade 400-meter relay team.
Darveaux placed first in the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the high jump. Pianalto claimed silver in the 100-meter dash and the triple jump. The 400-meter relay team also brought home a gold medal.
Wildcat runners accumulated a total of 91 points behind their hosts who finished first with 104 points. A total of 23 teams competed in the boys division, making it the largest meet Cassville has attended this season.
Gold medals were won by Trevor Shumaker in the 110-meter hurdles, Josh Lewright in the 400-meter dash and triple jump and Axl Larson in the discus.
Second place finishers were Jonathon Saucedo in the discus and both the 800-meter and 400-meter relays. Lewright, Chris Smith, Trenton Tanner and Shumaker make up both relay teams.
Other top finishers were: Tanner, third, 110-meter hurdles; Andrew Cole, third, pole vault; Jeremy Ashwell, third, triple jump; 1600-meter relay team, fourth; Joel Williams, fourth, shot put; Gage Holloway, sixth, 200-meter dash; and Smith, sixth, triple jump.
